I have used wordpress less then a year, but I find it a great and really compatible with me. The themes are free, I like free stuff. The plugin are free, anything the is useful and at the same time free is always great. I encountered wordpress because of my husdband’s blog and he is the one who set it up for me, basically I have no other choice. Nevertheless, I find it very user friendly.
Also, I just upgraded my wordpress to 2.8 with just one click yesterday. For a person without much knowledge in web programming, I think I acomplish a lot. 
Overall wordpress have done good for me and I will continue to use wordpress.
WordPress is a great blog script that we could use for free.
If you do not want to pay for hosting, you can use WordPress.com, which is also free BTW.
